About
About Phoenix
Founded in 2016, Phoenix is an experi(mental) health awareness apparel line & community that aims to raise awareness about the stigma surrounding mental health through art, storytelling & social campaigns.
We hope that our apparel can be a source of joy and comfort, creating opportunities for conversations about mental health and our shared experiences.
Phoenix was brought back to life when we lost AJ Devin Johnson to suicide in February of 2021. In honor of AJ's life, for everyone who has lost a loved one to suicide, and those of us who struggle with mental health, Phoenix was created for you.
Core Beliefs
We understand that mental health is deeply personal, and we are committed to reducing the stigma surrounding all forms of mental health struggles. We aim to raise awareness about mental health, reduce stigma, support and encourage others through community advocacy, and raise awareness about suicide prevention resources.
Creating Community
Here at Phoenix, we are all about community building. That is why we have come up with a fun way to connect YOU to other mental health baddies who are part of the Phoenix fam.
Your order will come with a unique hashtag that only you and 6 other people will receive... kind of like modern day pen pals, in groups of seven.
You will know what number you are within the group (ex. 2 of 7) and when you post on social media, you can use your unique hashtag to connect with the other 6 members of your squad.
Stigma can't thrive in community, and we're on a mission to change that, starting with YOU :)
Custom Keepsakes & Grief Care Packages
After my close friend AJ died by suicide, I knew I needed to create something to support his friends and family. So I created custom sweatshirts with his name on the side so we could have something to remember him by.
It was such an helpful part of my healing journey that I made a promise to myself and to AJ that one day I would do the same for others.
I’ve spent the last year researching, re-designing and gathering the supplies I need to make apparel in-house so I can create custom orders to memorialize the name of your loved one on the side sleeve. A portion of all funds will get set aside so I can create care packages for people who have lost a loved one to suicide.
This project has been on my heart and mind for the last 7 years. It has had ups and downs, which have mirrored my own journey with mental health, and I’m grateful to be able to finally share this with you all.
